Candyce (Candy) Woodruff, wife of former Delaware County Sheriff Lenden Woodruff is currently lodged in the Delaware County jail, held on $250,000 bond on a charge of shooting with intent to kill. She is accused of twice shooting her husband on Sunday June 17th, 2007.
Earlier in that day, Delaware County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Woodruff home in Colcord on a domestic disturbance call. Candyce told deputies Steve Kendrick and Randy Osburn that Lenden Woodruff had been drinking, yelling and had slapped her in the face.
Kendrick's report of the call indicates there were no physical marks present on Mrs. Woodruff. Candyce Woodruff reportedly told the deputies that she had no money, received $150 per-week in Worker's Compensation and was "drinking most of that up". The two deputies offered Candyce Woodruff $30 in order that she might travel to her mother's home in Claremore. She reportedly declined their offer of financial assistance and the deputies left.
At approximately 5:15 pm, deputies returned to the Woodruff residence in response to a 911 call indicating that Lenden Woodruff had been shot. When deputies arrived they found a .22 caliber handgun on the floor about a foot from the couch on which Lenden Woodruff lay bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound. Candyce Woodruff told deputies that Lenden had shot himself in the stomach.
It is alleged that Candyce Woodruff twice told neighbor and Lenden Woodruff relative Ann Luper than she, Candyce, had shot Lenden Woodruff. Reportedly Ann Luper was inside the Woodruff residence when authorities arrived.
What is not apparent is whether it was Candyce Woodruff, Ann Luper or both that called 911.
