Law and Disorder in Oklahoma - Page 2
Editor's Note: During the 2006 election cycle we urged voters to send five districts attorney packing. Four of the five were outsted.
District Attorney Farley Ward has never been elected to public office. Yet for over 20 years he has been a part of the 'Good Ol Boy Justice System' that has insured that no real justice exists in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. In the opinion of Bubbaworld this is a golden opportunity to send him packing and bring real justice to what is arguably one of the most corrupt counties in Oklahoma.
Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris is a man of many accomplishments. Unfortunately, most of them bad. But we gotta' say one thing for Harris, he knows how to enjoy the 'good life' while criminals run rampant and not prosecuted in Tulsa County. There are good reasons that every FOP lodge in Tulsa County endorsed Harris' opponent Brett Swab and one of them may well be that he is the criminals best friend in Tulsa County.
Wes Lane the Minister of Justice is supposed to be the District Attorney of Oklahoma County. Instead he has self-anointed himself as 'The Minister of Justice'. Oklahoma County voters need to turn him into 'Wes Lane the Unemployed' at the earliest opportunity, which just happens to be November 7th, 2006. If they fail to do so, odds are that the rule of law is not going to survive Lane's next 'jihad'.
District Attorney Richard Gray operates what is arguably the most corruption ridden district attorney's office in Oklahoma, if not the United States. Two of his staffers have entered either an Alford or guilty plea, a third is facing numerous criminal charges, the DA himself is under investigation by both the Attorney General and the Multi-County Grand Jury and a state audit of his office turned up over $14,000 in missing funds.
District Attorney Virginia Sanders is unique in the legal system in Oklahoma. She simply refuses to file charges against an admitted child rapist who testified under oath in a court of law that he raped a child for years and impregnated her twice.
The Case of the Drunk Police Chief reveals how Fairland, Oklahoma Police Chief Clint Walker, with only 8 days on the job, managed to get himself arrested for public drunk in a town of about 1,000 with only three full-time officers including the police chief.
The Yukon, OK Police Department Sex Scandal has resulted in the resignation of several officers, the firing of another and the suspension of yet another and the scandal has not played out completely as of yet. A former convenience store sales clerk alleges that the officers intimidated her into having sex with them while they were on duty, with the vast majority of the sexual encounters occurring in the store and within view of the Yukon, OK Police Department headquarters.
The Case of the Busted Assistant District Attorney involves Oklahoma County Assistant District Attorney Lou Keel, arrested by the Oklahoma City Police Department in a prostitution sting. One can't help but wonder how many prostitution related cases ADA Keel has prosecuted during his career. One would hope that an ADA would know that soliciting a prostitute is a crime. Is there some kind of "double standard" applicable to ADAs?
The Case of the 'Busted' Sheriff is a glimpse into law enforcement run amok in Oklahoma as Latimer County Sheriff Melvin Holly is arrested by the FBI in a jail house sex scandal in which it is alleged that 63 year old Sheriff Holly coerced female inmates into having sex with him, in his patrol car, on the floor of his office and at a railroad office. He's even alleged to have taken one of the victims to a dinner with other area sheriffs.
The Case of the 'DUI' Sheriff details the drunken escapades of Delaware County Sheriff Lenden Woodruff, arrested by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper in February, 2004 on charges of DUI, possession of a loaded firearm while driving under the influence, resisting arrest and transporting an open container.
Delaware County - Land of the Lawless demonstrates just how bad things can get for an entire county when there is no law and very little order. The arrival of a "new sheriff in town" seems to have help reduce the crime rate, but the truth is that it became such a chore to keep track of all the "goings on" in Delaware County that we gave up, temporarily.
The Tin Drum Fiasco details the legal efforts of the Oklahoma County District Attorney "Cowboy Bob" Macy and a band of censors to protect Oklahomans from Academy Award winning motion pictures. That the Oklahoma City Police Department violated federal law in the process of raiding video rental stores doesn't seem to bother the Okie Thinkers.
The Penthouse Fiasco was Tulsa's response to The Tin Drum Fiasco, as the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County District Attorney tried to protect the Average Okie from pictures of "nekid people" in a case so filled with "double standards" that it inspired the official Bubbaworld motto, "Double Standards Suck, Big Time - All the Time".
The Pedo Preacher of ORU demonstrates the "other side of the coin" when it comes to sex, sex crimes and law enforcement in Oklahoma. Judging from the "Tin Drum Fiasco" and the "Penthouse Fiasco" where the long arm of the law went after "little guys" for alleged minor offenses, the Tulsa County DA offered what is in the opinion of the Bubbaworld Editors a "sweetheart deal" on child molestation charges involving multiple young boys in a case that hints at a "cover-up". A cover-up to protect the administration of Oral Roberts University. A university which just happens to be the university from which Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris graduated.
Junk Justice and Okie Science explores the depths to which the criminal justice system has sunk in Oklahoma. Several cases of innocent persons, railroaded through the Oklahoma criminal justice system on a train of mistakes, outright lies and junk science are reviewed. One victim of "Junk Justice and Okie Science" came within five days of being executed for a crime he did not commit. This after having spent many years on "Death Row", all the while protesting his innocence, as his mental health deteriorated. Other reports detail the stories of individuals never previously charged with a crime or even a minor traffic offense, arrested, tried and convicted and locked away for 15, 17 or more years while few if any in Oklahoma give a damn about the injustice they suffered or wish to see them compensated for having their lives stolen by the state.
Oklahoma Law Is 'Christian Law' reveals the depths to which religion has embedded its tentacles into statutory law in Oklahoma. For example the ONLY statutory defense against a charge of "Sabbath Breaking" in Oklahoma is to prove that you practice religion on some other day of the week.
