Tulsa City Councilor Chris Medlock
On 4/24/05 the Tulsa World in a report titled, " Medlock's oft-touted MBA still incomplete" revealed that Tulsa City Councilor Chris Medlock's often touted MBA from the University of Tulsa exists only in Councilor Medlock's mind.
The report by Tulsa World report P. J. Lassek indicated that Medlock told Lassek that he thought he had a degree, even though he never received his diploma.
The report went on to quote Medlock as stating:
I'm not the kind of guy that cares about having a paper diploma.
The report went on to further quote Medlock as saying:
I'm proud of my MBA and that's why I mention it a lot. I want people to understand the way I've been trained. Had I known I didn't have it, I wouldn't have touted it.
Were it not for Councilor Medlock's flaunting his supposed education this fiasco would not be so alarming. But he has flaunted his supposed MBA since announcing for office and frequently while in office. Therefore this revelation is both alarming and legitimate cause to further question what if any other aspects of Medlock's background he has embellished or concealed.
Of course Councilor Medlock is not without his defenders or 'excusers', as the case may be.
Michael Bates via his Batesline.com blog immediately jumped to Medlock's defense quoting a portion of Medlock's explanation of the fiasco and reinforcing the 'I thought I had a degree although I don't have a diploma' excuse.
And odds are that rabid right-wing radio personality Michael DelGiorno of KFAQ will rush forward at the first opportunity to stick his finger into the leaking dike of Medlock's credibility.
And of course, Medlock's own blog is already operating in defensive mode.
Certainly Tulsa City Councilor Chris Medlock has some 'explaining' to do.
And in the mean time, until he manages to actually obtain his graduate degree he might want to simply tell folks he has an AMBA, 'Almost a Masters of Business Administration'. His doing so would be a lot more honest even if it is somewhat humbling for a guy that likes to flaunt his self-perceived superiority.
