A Question of Priorities #2
In this section of Bubbaworld we reveal examples of events which should cause a reasonable person to question the priorities of both Oklahoma's Criminal Justice System and those that control it.
Delaware County District Court, Jay, Oklahoma
DA of Record: Terrell Crosson
Judge of Record: Alicia Littlefield
In January, 2005 Christopher Trevett, age 18, of Grove, Oklahoma cut a sweetheart deal with prosecutors in Delaware County, Oklahoma.
Trevett was originally charged with the first-degree rape of a 13 year old girl but was permitted to plead guilty to aggravated assault and battery.
Delaware County Judge Alicia Littlefield gave her blessing to the deal and sentenced Trevett to a five year deferred sentence, fined him $450 and ordered Trevett to pay court cost. The judge was kind enough to set up a easy payment plan for Mr. Trevett, to the tune of $100 per month.
As a result of the plea deal Trevett will not be required to undergo sex offender counseling or to register as a sex offender. Provided he does not commit other crimes during the deferred sentence his record will be expunged and no trace of this offense will remain. Except in the memory of the victim.
