A Question of Priorities #6
In this section of Bubbaworld we reveal examples of events which should cause a reasonable person to question the priorities of both Oklahoma's Criminal Justice System and those that control it.
Ottawa County District Court, Miami, Oklahoma
DA of Record: Tom May
Judge of Record: Robert Reavis II
In July, 2001, James Carl Pischel, age 51, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma entered a no contest plea in Ottawa County District Court on two counts of assault with intent to commit a felony in lieu of going to trial on charges of sexually molesting two female relatives.
Pischel was originally charged with one count of second-degree rape by instrumentation, one count of indecent exposure, one count of sodomy and one count of lewd molestation.
During a preliminary hearing, a 15 and a 17 year old relative of Pischel's testified the trooper had made inappropriate advances toward them during a three-year period.
Pischel, an OHP Trooper for 25 years, resigned from the OHP two weeks prior to entering the no contest plea.
In October, 2001 Judge Robert Reavis II sentenced Pischel to two concurrent five-year terms of probation. Pischel was not accessed any fine but was ordered to pay court costs. Owing to the nature of the charge to which Pischel pled no contest he was not required to register as a sex offender or undergo counseling.
