The Masturbating Judge Goes To Prison
A pre-sentencing report prepared by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections indicated that Thompson still refused to accept responsibility for his actions, would likely not be a good candidate for rehabilitation and treatment and it was the department's recommendation that Thompson serve a prison sentence for his crimes.
On August 18, 2006 Judge C. Allen McCall in keeping with the recommendation of the trial jury sentenced former Creek County District Judge Donald D. Thompson to four one year prison sentences to be served consecutively. Thompson was also fined a total of $40,000 and will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Judge McCall also denied appeal bond and ordered Thompson transported to prison. Following sentencing Thompson was allowed a brief visit with family members and was then placed in handcuffs and taken to the state Correction Department's Lexington Assessment and Reception Center for processing into Oklahoma's prison system.
During the Thompson's trial media reports indicated that a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections said the department was prepared to accept Thompson, should he be convicted and sentenced to prison and that Thompson would serve any prison term in protective custody, possibly in an out-of-state prison.
Prosecutor Richard Smothermon said Judge McCall handed down a proper sentence while defense attorney Clark Brewster said there were grounds for appeal. Brewster also lamented Judge McCall's refusal to permit Thompson to remain free on bond pending appeal of his convictions.
As of September 11, 2006 Donald D. Thompson remains in the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center. No announcement has been made as to whether Thompson will remain there, be transferred to another prison facility within Oklahoma or be transferred to an out-of-state facility.
