Wes Lane the Minister of Justice

A Bubbaworld Editorial

Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane fancies himself 'the minister of justice', even having gone so far to use that silly line during his 2002 election campaign.  An election campaign during which we at Bubbaworld wrote our first editorial regarding this relic of the Cowboy Bob Macy era.  That editorial is still Available Here.   If you have not seen it previously, we highly recommend that you do before continuing with this the 2006 version.

Here we are in 2006 and once again the voters have the opportunity to place their stamp of approval or disapproval on 'The Minister of Justice'.   Only this time, hopefully they have learned their lesson and will make a better choice, for in the opinion of this writer they could not make a worse choice than re-electing the self-anointed 'minister of justice'.

Among Wes Lane's 'accomplishments' during his term in office was spending millions of dollars on the state prosecution of Terry Nichols for the bombing of the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City.  Nichols was already serving life without parole sentences following his federal convictions.   Lane, always the publicity hound, wanted to get a death penalty conviction against Nichols, something the feds could not do and he was willing to spend millions to do it.  Unfortunately for Lane, the jury while convicting Nichols for 161 murders refused to grant Lane his wish and Nichols received additional life without parole sentences.

After the Nichols trial concluded it was revealed that months before trial Nichols had confessed to his involvement in the bombing and had offered to enter a no-contest plea to the charges in exchange for prosecutors not seeking the death penalty.  Wes Lane refused to accept the no context plea deal and pressed ahead with his quest for fame as the prosecutor that got the death sentence on Terry Nichols.  In spite of being the self-ordained 'minister of justice', Lane failed at 'bettering the feds'.

Another of Wes Lane's accomplishments during his term in office is managing once again to keep his drug offender wife, Lori Hansen, out of jail long enough for her deferred sentence for drug abuse to expire.  But alas, Hansen after having recovered her license to practice medicine ultimately surrendered it after reportedly failing yet another drug test, one for alcohol.

Currently Minister of Justice Wes Lane is once again making Oklahoma County a laughingstock with his persecution, yes you read that right - persecution not prosecution, of 'Video Vigilante' Brian Bates.  Bates used to receive the praise of Lane for Bate's anti-prostitution efforts in Oklahoma City.  Then came the day that Bates video taped several Oklahoma City police officers beating the crap out of an alleged 'john', the video was broadcast both nationally and internationally and suddenly Bates was persona-non-grata in the ministry of justice.

As a result, Lane first tried to charge Bates with being 'a pimp' on an allegation that Bates hired prostitutes to take 'johns' to locations where Bates could videotape the crimes.  That case was thrown out of court, much to Lane's dismay.  Recently Lane decided to try a different approach and managed to get an Oklahoma County grand jury to indict not only Bates but also his wife on prostitution related charges, all of which center on the allegations of a multi-felony convicted prostitute whom Lane's office has offered 'a deal' to help persecute Bates and his wife.

For the shocking story of Wes Lane's vendetta against Mr. and Mrs. Bates we refer our readers to the following web sites:

Vote Out DA Wes Lane      and     John TV

(Editor's note: Both of the above sites are owned and operated by Mr. Bates.)

Districts attorney do not engage in the type of conduct which has typified the regime of Wes Lane as Minister of Justice for Oklahoma County.  Lane's conduct, desire for glory and outright persecution of Brian Bates and his wife smacks more of a spoiled brat demanding his way and throwing a fit when he doesn't get it than it does of an open and honest district attorney.

Hopefully Oklahoma County voters 'get it' and on November 7th make Wes Lane the former minister of justice...
