Peter Jack Says 'You're Crazy'

We get lots of e-mail.  Some offering praise, some offering scorn and some offering suggestions for acts which are anatomically impossible.   An e-mail from 'Peter Jack' is the first to diagnose the Bubbaworld webmaster as 'crazy'.  Read 'Peter Jack's' e-mail, our reply and decide for yourself.

Bubba,

I've been reading some of your articles and quite frankly, every issue in which you have a beef is petty. You say Senator Dr. No / Tom Coburn is the worst man for the job and I say he is the best type of man for the job! He is not a career politician, but the epitome of the original intent our founding fathers had for the Legislative Branch. He does not have the same agenda as 97% of the elected representatives who have the agenda their largest contributors. His agenda is based on the people, I repeat, THE PEOPLE who voted for him. I have a few of questions: Do you think his latest proposal, which was signed into law on Sept. 26th is a good idea? Do you think his "Pork Busters" initiative is important(including his stance on ear marking?) Are from Oklahoma? The reason why I ask if you're from Oklahoma because you belittle the people of Oklahoma and make all of them out to be ignorant. Ignorance is primarily based on Apathy because of muckrakers, like yourself, which are the greatest problem in this country because all you do is criticize and complain, nothing more or less, let us be as pessimistic about things as possible. Why don't you think about solutions besides, "getting rid of somebody!" If you have a problem with something, you have to figure out a solution for the task at hand rather than dwell on problem.

Hi Peter Jack and thanks for your comments.

If judges masturbating during first-degree murder trials, granting child custody to an admitted child rapist which the district attorney refuses to prosecute and in another case granting child custody to a registered sex offender in violation of state law are petty, I would hate to see what you actually consider to be significant issues.

If sheriffs using female jail inmates as a private 'harem', being the 'town drunk', assaulting a state trooper during a DUI arrest, protecting an illegal gambling operation or refusing to uphold the law are petty, what would you consider serious?

If parents, care givers and daycare workers physically, mentally and sexually abusing and torturing children is petty, what in your opinion constitutes significant child abuse?  Is there even such a thing as child abuse or are these just petty examples of the 'spare the rod and spoil the child' mentality so common in Oklahoma?

I do not consider any of these issues petty.  When you write "every issue in which you have a beef is petty" it leads me to believe that you consider them to be petty and of little significance.  May I ask what is important to you? Football? NASCAR? Horse racing?

I fully support Senator Coburn's efforts to reduce pork-barrel spending and to shine the light on all federal spending.  As a matter of fact I applaud those efforts, they are good start.

That said, even the village idiot gets it right some of the time.

The fact remains that in spite of getting it right on federal spending Tom Coburn's shoot from the lip approach to politics is not good for Oklahoma.   Especially when he utters pronouncements such those wherein he pontificated that Cherokees aren't really Indians, that lesbianism is so rampant in Southeastern Oklahoma that the schools permit only one girl at a time to go to the restroom, that the Second Amendments means that he can have and use a bazooka if he wishes and that doctors that perform abortions should be given the death sentence and this in spite of the fact that Coburn himself has performed abortions and considers those he performed justified.

You ask am I from Oklahoma.  The answer is no, I have resided here only for the last thirty-plus years.  I have been here long enough however to watch as Governor David Hall went from the Governor's Mansion to federal prison and 266 of the state's county commissioners and their suppliers were convicted in federal court of the largest kickback and corruption scandal in US history.  Does that fulfill the residency requirement?

You write I "belittle the people of Oklahoma".  In part you are right and in part you are wrong.  There are many fine people in Oklahoma.  By the same token they are many scoundrels in Oklahoma.  Unfortunately most of the scoundrels are in government in either elected or appointed positions and we do need to "get rid of them" if ever Oklahoma is to attain its potential.

That the scoundrels are and remain in government owes in a large part to the ignorance and apathy that you mention in your e-mail.  Many Oklahomans are ignorant of the degree of corruption, malfeasance and outright criminality existing in Oklahoma government.  Others are aware of these conditions but are apathetic to them.

The first step to resolving a problem is getting people to acknowledge that a problem exists.  That is the whole point of Bubbaworld and the efforts of both myself and the site's volunteer 'muckrakers'.   If one wants the sugar coated version of life in Oklahoma, they need to look elsewhere.  At Bubbaworld we deal in realities, and reality is sometimes harsh, frightening and infuriating.  But someone has to reveal that reality and that is what we have been doing for over ten years and will continue to do as long as there is a harsh reality to life in Oklahoma...
